Privacy policy
Updated on October 23, 2026.
Octopus is an app for Mac, Windows and Linux that lays out your agents, terminals and servers on a canvas. It is sold by Smartery LLC, 222 Yamato Rd, Ste 106-198, Boca Raton, FL 33432, USA. This page says what data Octopus handles, what for, and what you can do about it.
What stays with you
Workspaces, cards, conversations, notes, files, commands and your list of servers stay on your computer and your servers. None of it comes to us. Passwords and keys stay in the system's vault: the Keychain on macOS; encrypted with DPAPI under your account on Windows; and the Secret Service (such as GNOME Keyring or KWallet) on Linux. The app has no telemetry and no usage tracking.
Claude Code and Codex talk straight to Anthropic and OpenAI, with your account. Voice dictation, if you turn it on, talks straight to Google (Gemini), with your key. Cloud accounts (gcloud) run on your computer, with your login. Octopus neither sees nor keeps those conversations.
The license
To check the license, the app sends our server, when it opens and every hour: the key, an identifier of the computer (computed from the hardware on a Mac, or from the system installation's identifier on Windows and Linux; with no personal data), the computer's name, the system and its version (macOS, Windows or the Linux distribution) and the app version. That lets us show how many computers use the license and prevent misuse. The free trial asks for no personal data.
The purchase
Payment is handled by Stripe. We neither see nor keep your payment details, such as your card. We keep the name and e-mail given at checkout, the amount, the date and Stripe's payment identifier, to deliver and renew the license, issue the invoice and help you. Stripe handles its data under the Stripe privacy policy.
Updates and this site
The app looks for updates in a public file and downloads new versions from there. As with any website, the servers log technical access data (such as the IP address) for a short time. This site uses no tracking cookies: it keeps only one cookie with the language you picked.
Where and for how long
License and purchase data are kept on Google Cloud (United States) and at Stripe, for as long as the license exists and for the time the law requires for sales records.
Your rights
Under the LGPD, the GDPR and other data protection laws, you can ask to access, correct, export or delete your data by writing to contact@smartery.tech. Deleting the purchase data turns the license off.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. Important changes also show up in the app's release notes.
